 Gala concert of Ihor Bilozir’s hits at Lviv Opera, March 17 (28, Svobody Ave.)

This March Lviv will honour famous folk singer Ihor Bilozir, whose murder in 2000 following a dispute over the Ukrainian and Russian languages in a Lviv street side cafй sparked a surge in nationalist sentiment which for a period threatened to unbalance the city’s delicate multiethnic equilibrium. March 17 will be the 55th anniversary of the singer’s birth, and to honour the event a host of artists will perform including Anatoliy Matviychuk (Kyiv), Bohdan Stashkiv (Ivano-Frankivsk), Stepan Stepan (Lviv), Pavlo Mrezhuk (Kyiv), Oleksandr Nevzhe (Rivne), Roman Tsimbala (Lviv) and Volodymyr Verminskiy (Ternopil) anlong with Khrystyna Okhitva (Kyiv) and the troupes ‘Svitozary’ (Ternopil) and ‘Chorni Chereshni’ (Lutsk).
The highlight of the tribute concert will be a ballet performance from Lviv’s Stelz troupe led by Natalia Kaspshyshchak.
