Queen’s representative highlights Lviv’s Canadian connection
On April 25-26 Lviv played host to an official visit from Canada’s Governor General Michaelle Jean as part of her official visit to Ukraine. Ms. Jean is the official representative of Queen Elizabeth II, who as the monarch of the entire British Commonwealth of nations remains the official head of state in Canada, and her visit to Lviv served to highlight the existing ties which continue to bind Canada with Lviv. Millions of Canadians claim Ukrainian heritage, with many hailing from the Lviv region, and this was a focus of the visit, which included an April 26 visit to the Dzherelo Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy. This centre was established by Canadians and Ukrainians in 1993 and offers support for children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions in the Lviv region.
