Legendary Mashina Vremeni Returns to Lviv!

Leopolitan music lovers and guests of the city will be treated to a concert from the legendary Mashina Vremeni (Time Machine) on 22 November. Kind of like Russia’s Rolling Stones, Mashina Vremeni is the oldest and most famous Russian rock group, continually performing since their formation in 1969. They were the first to sing rock in Russian and popularized the music in the Soviet Union. Their song ‘Povorot’ (The Turn) topped the very first Soviet chart in 1979, while their 1984 hit ‘Muzyka Pod Snegom’ (Music Under the Snow) topped the chart for a whopping 17 months! Under perestroika, when the group was permitted to sell LPs, they sold over 18 million copies. They also started Russia’s first independent music label – Sintez Records.

Lviv’s Pikkardijska Tercia Celebrates 25 Years!

Lviv’s magnificent Opera & Ballet Theatre will host two very special concerts by Ukraine’s most famous a capella ensemble – Pikkardijska Tercia – on 3 December. Hailing from Lviv, this group of six very talented singers are celebrating their 25th anniversary with two shows for their hometown fans. Pikkardijska Tercia is as unique as its name, which translates to ‘Picardian Chord’. Originally a quartet when they formed in 1992, the group originally sang ancient and folk Ukrainian songs. The quartet grew to a sextet that amassed an enviable repertoire of more than 300 classical, liturgical, folk, and original songs. The group has released 15 albums, including its latest, Lety (Fly), just last month.

Desire: An Album of Passion, Pain, and Lust

With a brand new set-list based on their latest album ‘Desire’, the Manchester-based duo Hurts will perform at Lviv’s SKA Velotrack on 22 November. Formed in 2009 by singer Theo Hutchcraft and multi-instrumentalist Adam Anderson, this British synthpop duo have fallen in love with Ukraine, and Lviv in particular. They released their fourth studio album in late September and have enjoyed heavy radio play for their first single ‘Beautiful Ones’.

Lviv Security Forum

Lviv’s sparkling new Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky Centre will host the Lviv Security Forum – an event featuring high-level discussions on Ukrainian and European current affairs – from 30 November to 1 December. The discussions will focus on regional conflict resolution, economic and energy security, illegal migration, organised crime, refugees, border management, corruption, terrorism, human trafficking, and conventional weapons proliferation.

EBEC Challenge Lviv

The international student organisation BEST will hold the annual EBEC Challenge, a European engineering competition, at Lviv’s Polytechnic National University from 27 November to 1 December. Supported by the students’ union, students from polytechnic universities will have the chance to showcase their knowledge and skills in a series of engineering competitions.

Dynamic Dan Balan in Lviv

Lviv’s hopping Malevich Concert Arena & Night Club will host popular Moldovan singer / songwriter Dan Balan for a concert on 1 December. The Chisinau native is the first and only Moldavian musician to be nominated for a Grammy, as co-writer of Rihanna and T.I.’s ‘Live Your Life’. He is the founder of European pop group O-Zone and wrote and produced their hit international single ‘Dragostea Din Tei’ (You’ll know it, if you hear it!).

Lviv Half Marathon Grand Prix

Lviv’s Grand Prix Half Marathon will come to town on October 29. Leopolitan runners and guests of the city will be able to race the 21 km main course, the 10 km ‘Lviv Run’, the 5 km ‘Grand Prix Lviv Run’, or the 2 km ‘Winners Run’. There is also the 21 km Chamber Cup relay, which will see three participants run 5 km and one run 6 km.

Patricia Kaas in Lviv

Patricia Kaas, a distinguished singer who has worked hard to make a name in the French music scene, will visit Lviv on 20 October. While the international music scene is largely dotted with British and American singers, Kaas worked her way up to bring fame for France. She started singing at eight and her career took off when she was hired by the German Saarbrucken club at 13.
