Ukrainian Streetball League Championship

Streetball, or street basketball, is a variation of basketball featuring significantly less formal structure and enforcement of the game’s rules and typically played on outdoor courts. This allows players to better display their individual talents. Considered an extension of hip-hop culture, streetball can even refer to other urban sports played on asphalt. It is particularly popular in larger cities, with some organising streetball programs similar to midnight basketball programs.

It’s time again for Lviv’s museums to open their doors at night to Leopolitans and guests of the city as “Night in Lviv” festival returns to the Western Ukrainian capital from 14-16 July. Organisers promise the tours to be more interesting and exciting than ever!

CRUISE COLLECTION BY ROKSOLANA BOGUTSKA

On May 19th at 19.00 Lviv’s museum-cultural complex “Lvivarnya” will play host for the presentation of cruise collection 2017 by recognized Ukrainian designer Roksolana Bogutska. The fashion collection will feature colorful mix of modern trends and authentic Ukrainian ethno motifs.

ONUKA in Lviv

Lviv’s Malevich Concert Arena & Night Club will host one of Ukraine’s hottest rock groups – ONUKA – in concert on May 30th. The band was formed in 2013 when Eugene Filatov (aka The Maneken) partnered with NataZhyzhchenko, the former vocalist of Ukraine’s Tomato Jaws. In Ukrainian, Onuka means ‘granddaughter’. It is a tribute to Zhyzhchenko’s grandfather and renowned folk-instrument maker, Oleksandr Shlionchyk.

Okean Elzy World Tour Comes Home

Lviv’s-own OkeanElzy (aka Elza’sOcean, or simply OE) is the most successful rock band to come out of Eastern Europe and the CIS since the fall of the Soviet Union. The group has sold over one million CDs in Ukraine and Russia alone. Formed in Lviv in 1994, they released their first full album in 1998 and won Breakthrough of the Year and Best Song for their hit ‘Where There is No Us’ at the 1999 Taurus Games festival. They were named the Best Rock Act at the 2007 FUZZ Magazine Music Awards and more recently were rightly named the Best Ukrainian Group of the Last 20 Years at the Yearly Ukrainian National Awards (YUNA).

Only a few international artists have succeeded in making such a lasting name on the international dance scene that the man headlining Lviv’s June 3rd concert at Arena Lviv – ATB. Also known as Andre Tanneberger, he is a German DJ, musician, and producer of trance music best known for his smash hit 9PM (Til I Come).

Kosmoviziya Children’s Festival

Lviv’s Art Palace is the place to be from June 1-4 as it hosts the Kosmoviziya Children’s Festival: Superheroes and Books Nebula. This cultural celebration is not just for children, the family-friendly atmosphere will extend the joy of learning to parents and adults as well. The festival hopes to encourage learning and self-education from a young age to help raise a generation of leaders, scholars, and professionals that will contribute to the development of their societies. Kozmoviziya includes plenty of educational and cultural activities aimed at popularising the reading of children’s books and the development of their publishing. Activities include presentations from children’s book publishing houses, literary quests, meetings with writers, film screenings, sports activities, book competitions, charity events and, of course, a large book fair.

Profit Day Employment Fair

Lviv’s Reikartz Dworzec Hotel will play host to the Profit Day employment fair on May 27th for people searching to find new opportunities and future employment in the highly promising IT area – and for the companies looking to hire them! Educational institutions will also introduce themselves to eventgoers, including admission requirements and specialty courses. Companies will make presentations, conduct seminars, provide workshops and trainings, and look through applicants’ CVs. The hope is that many young Leopolitans can learn more about the different professions or even find a job!

Ukrainian Folk Dancers to Amaze Lviv

Ukraine’s iconic P. Virsky National Folk Dance Ensemble will stop in Lviv on May 29 as they wow audiences across Ukraine on their Spring 2017 national tour. The Kyiv-based world-famous folk dance company is renowned for its innovative approach to the art form. Formed in 1937 by PavloVirsky and MykolaBolotov, the group was guided by its eponymous founder until his death in 1975. Since 1980, the company’s artistic direction has been in the talented hands of MyroslavVantukh, one of Virsky’s disciples and a man that shares his ambition to create dances that embrace historical Ukrainian dance traditions while at the same time being modern and innovative.
