This spring Istanbul is gearing up for a mega tourist event – the city’s first Annual Shopping Festival – with the objective of attracting millions of visitors to the stores and boutiques of the ancient gateway city. In the two years since it was first established, Lviv’s Jazz Club has succeeded in becoming an integral part of contemporary Leopolitan cultural life. In its appropriately laid-back, jazzy way, this band of jamming enthusiasts have become something of a local tradition and this spring they plan to hold daily concerts featuring an ever-growing band of collaborators from across Ukraine and abroad.

Over a hundred companies and more than ten thousand visitors are expected at this March’s annual ode to all that glitters. Jewellery has always been a favourite theme in the city which gave birth to diamond-encrusted, fur-lined masochism, and in recent years this trade event has demonstrated just how quickly the domestic market for luxury accessories is growing.

This gala performance in Lviv is part of a nationwide tour by the flagship Georgian troupe which will take in thirty Ukrainian cities. Georgian dance is hugely popular in Ukraine and the Sukhishvili troupe are about as good as it gets – having performed on most of the world’s most famous stages including a stint on Broadway and a host of international honours.
