Although he sounds like a brand of organic shampoo, Timati is actually Russia’s leading hop hop practitioner and all-round Bling Tsar. While not recording rap videos in speedboats on the French Riviera accompanied by and army of silicone supermodels and bucketfuls of gold and diamonds, the singer is also a major playboy figure and godfather of the Moscow clubbing scene - he also owns two clubs in the Russian capital and his own record label.

In the past decade few Ukrainian acts have generated as much critical acclaim as Bumboks, the lyrical rap and hip hop trio who first appeared on the Kyiv music scenes in the heady days of late 2004. The group made a name for themselves as a result of Andriy Khlibniuk’s hauntingly poetic yet streetwise lyrics, performed to a dizzying array of funky and original musical accompaniments courtesy of guitarist Andriy Samoilo and master mixer Valentin Matyuk.

Lviv City Day celebrations, 8-10 May, events across town One of the few Soviet traditions to have been enthusiastically embraced in post-independence Lviv is the practice of having an annual City Day which allows local residents to teem out onto the streets and celebrate their home town. This event is so popular in today’s Lviv that officials from the City Council decided in recent years to extend the holiday from the usual one day to three entire days of festivities stretching over a balmy early May weekend. Highlights of this year’s Lviv City Day celebrations will include a colourful street carnival on May 9 which will include participants from local dance and theatrical troupes, knights on horseback, folk dance ensembles, fairytale carriages pulled by angels, giants on stilts and much more!

Talented and intriguing musician Sergej Babkin is recognized as founder and participant of group “5"nizza”, who successfully combines theatre career (Segej is one of leading actors of “Theatre 19”, Kharkiv ) composing and performing music.

This shared date is particularly poignant in multidenominational Lviv, a city which has sat upon the crossroads of the Orthodox and Catholic worlds for centuries and which boasts a staggering array of churches and cathedrals serving the spiritual needs of both communities. With its echoes of the pagan past and associations with springtime fertility rites, Easter is always a major holiday in Lviv, and this year will be a double celebration which will also highlight the strength of sectarian solidarity in this cosmopolitan city.
