Celebrating Lviv as Spring Arrives!
Lviv Day celebrations, May 9-11, across town
This year Lviv’s City Day celebrations will take place over the long weekend of May 9 –11, and the programme of events just keeps on growing! The first event on the long list of Lviv Day happenings will be the opening of the traditional festival of creativity in the courtyard of Lviv City Hall on the eve of the holiday, May 8. The city’s multi-ethnic historic tapestry will serve as the inspiration for an open air concert on May 9, with troupes representing the many different
cultures which call Lviv home all participating in a festival of colour and tradition. Mean while, the evening programme looks set to be topped by a live open-air concert from much-loved local bard Slava Vakarchuk, who first shot to fame as the gravel-voiced and tortured front man of Lviv mega-group Okean Elzy before carving out a name for himself as a soloist in recent years. On May 10 a choir and orchestra will be performing a magical
and once in a lifetime classical concert in front of the Dominican Cathedral, while later on another Lviv legend, Yuriy Bashmet (pictured), will delight fans with a live concert on
Rynok Square. For full festival schedule details please contact Lviv’s Culture and Tourism office on (032) 2975-860, 2975-861.
