Paintball Euros in Lviv

European Paintball Championship ,
Lviv Stage of the Continental Grand Tour,
June 20-21, Shkolyaryk Stadium (1 Vakhnyanyna Street, Lviv, close to Lycharkiv Cemetery)

The sport of paintballing has developed rapidly since appearing in the early 1990s and is now moving away from purely recreational status towards better competitive regulation and the kind of status once reserved for more established sporting activities like football and chess. After a successful season in 2008 two of Europe’s major paintball leagues - Centurio Circuit and European Central Series – have decided to work together on developing paintball as a competitive sport competition in Europe, and they have included Lviv in the list of host cities for this year’s events! The new competitive format has been dubbed ‘The Grand Tour’ (www.paintballgrandtour.com) and will take in four East European cities over the summer season, with events already having taken place in Warsaw and Vienna prior to this month’s Lviv showdown. The final event of the 2009 Grand Tour will be in Budapest in early September. Sportsmen and women from 10 countries are expected to
participate in this year’s shoot-out, with Ukrainian sides expected to have a strong presence. The sport of paintballing has built up quite a following in Lviv, where its appeal to the warrior soul of the Europe’s great borderland lion city has struck a cord with local gun-slingers.
