Leopolitan Wins Bronze in Badminton

The Badminton National Cup took place in Kyiv over the 30 January to 2 February weekend, where Lviv was represented by athletes from the Children & Youth sports school and local badminton club.

December Athlete of the Month: Olena Starikova

Lviv region’s Olena Starikova was named Lviv’s December Athlete of the Month after starring in the third round of the Tissot UCI Cycling World Cup last month. The star cyclist returned home from an event at Berlin’s Velodrome with two medals – a gold in the 500m and bronze in the sprint.

Winter Fairy Tale Gymnastics

Lviv’s Halychyna Sports Palace hosted the 2018 Winter Fairy Tale national artistic gymnastics tournament on 8-9 December. Nearly every region of Ukraine was represented among the 326 participants aged 6 to 18 years old, alongside athletes from Poland, Moldova, and Belarus.

Lviv’s Buksa Becomes National Chess Champion

Lviv’s Nataliya Buksa became the latest chess prodigy from Lviv to capture a national title after winning the Ukrainian Women’s Chess Championships in Kyiv last month. Buksa bested nine of the country’s finest chess players in a 10-player round-robin event that was highlighted with her claiming the title over Ternopil’s Olha Babiy.

Lviv’s Wrestlers Shine at World Championships

Leopolitan wrestlers put on quite a show at the Wrestling World Championships in Budapest last month, claiming three medals. More than 850 athletes from 97 nations faced off to claim one of the 30 world titles in freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s divisions.

Leopolitan Wins Bodybuilding World Championship

One of the most striking stars of the Leopolitan bodybuilding school is Oksana Brygidyr and she continues to show the world how fit Leopolitans can be. Already the 2015 world champion and a European and Olympia Europe champion, Brygidyr topped some of the world’s fittest athletes at the IFBB World Fitness Championships in Bialystok, Poland last month.

Ukraine Shines at 2018 Invictus Games

Ukrainian veterans shone at the fourth Invictus Games, held in Sydney, Australia from 20-27 October. War veterans from 18 countries competed in 13 sports and our Ukrainian heroes returned home with 20 medals. The seven gold, ten silver, and three bronze medals were six more than the Ukrainian team won last year in Canada and good enough to finish fifth in the medal count.
