Lviv Students Crown their First Lady

As part of celebrations to mark Ukraine’s Constitution Day Lviv students hosted a ‘First Lady 2009’ beauty contest in late June over at the city’s picturesque Bohdan Khmelnitskiy Park. Even unseason rain was unable to dampen the enthusiasm of the audience as some of Lviv’s most talented undergraduate students strutted and preened in a show that included both summer dress and bikini sections

Intimate Exhibition

Russian Premiere at Lviv Opera House

On June 18th Lviv Opera House hosted the premiere of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece ‘The Tsar’s Bride.’ This historical melodramatic love story set during the reign of Ivan the Terrible was presented in the Russian language as a special present to mark Russia’s national day.

Ukrainians love to dance and June saw West Ukraine’s first Modern Dance School open up in Lviv. The ‘Sirius’ school got off to a flying start with master-classes from famed TV dance star Vlad Yama and TV choreographer Tatyana Ostroverh.

New Album from Lviv Jazz Divas

Popular Lviv jazz group ‘ShockolaD’ presented their new album to local fans in June at Lviv’s Liviy Bereh club following on from the hugely positive vibe they enjoyed when tracks from the new disc were first aired during the city’s ‘Flugery’ springtime jazz festival.

Austrian President Visits Lviv

Austrian President Heinz Fischer paid a state visit to Ukraine in early July, visiting both Kyiv and Lviv along with a major trade delegation as Austria looked to cement its status as the fourth largest foreign investor in Ukraine.
