MEN AT ARMS AT CITY HALL
Tourists and onlookers in Rynok Square on November 1 witnessed history – reconstructed! A ‘flash-mob’ was orchestrated by the social organisation ‘Pamyat’ (‘Memory’) to mark the 93rd anniversary of ‘Lystopadovy Chyn’ (‘The November Act’) and the proclamation of the creation of the West Ukrainian People's Republic. It was on this day in 1918 that the flag of independent Ukraine was first flown over City Hall. Flash-mobbers (including Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyi) dressed as riflemen and set up ‘security check points’ near City Hall and distributed leaflets about the ‘new republic’ (with blue and yellow ribbons on the barrels, of course!).
