The coffee capital of Ukraine
Lviv has long been known as the coffee capital of Ukraine – indeed, legend has it that a Lviv native first introduced coffee into Viennese culture, thus making the city the spiritual home of Eastern European coffee culture as a whole. This rich heritage has not gone unnoticed among the city’s ever imaginative authorities, who have in recent years launched an annual Coffee day holiday to help locals celebrate their coffee culture. This year’s festivities, which were held on the weekend of September 26-27, included competitions to find Lviv’s best brew and lots of fun theatricals, but for most people it was yet another excuse to sit back and enjoy a fine cup of coffee. The much coveted title of Lviv’s best coffee house eventually went to “Svit Kavy” (Katedralna sq., 6).
