Lviv celebrated its 753rd birthday in style this May with City Day celebrations which attracted more than ten thousand revellers. City officials switched Lviv’s annual celebrations from their traditional spot in September to May in a bid to help boost the city’s tourism appeal, and this tactic appeared to have paid off handsomely as huge crowds attended this year’s festivities, with highlights including a colourful carnival and a host of historically-themed costume parades Less traditional elements of this year’s party included a procession of Zaporozhets Soviet-era automobiles complete with chorus girls and a live rock concert in the city centre, while Cossack bikers and youth theatre troupes added to the air of festivity.
