CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: SHAKHTAR VS PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

Leopolitan football fans can now get excited to see the likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sergio Ramos, and Thiago Silva grace the green pitch at Arena Lviv as Shakhtar was drawn into a difficult Group A alongside France’s Paris Saint-Germain, Spain’s Real Madrid, and Sweden’s Malmo. Currently ranked as the best-club team in the world, Real Madrid has won the tournament a total of 10 times, with their most recent triumph being in 2014.

The Lviv Art Palace is the place to be from October 1st-6th if you’re looking for goods manufactured by local plants, factories, and private enterprises. The event aims to highlight local manufacturers in the food and nutrition, paper and cellulose, chemical, and furniture industries. Along with the exhibition-fair, Leopolitans and guests of the city will be able to participate in several seminars, trainings, and roundtables.

Hi-Tech Expo

The Hi-Tech Expo, a uniquely Ukrainian exhibtion of modern technologies and new IT products, will take place at Arena Lviv on October 2nd as part of the Lviv IT Arena 2015 events. The expo will bring together IT companies, startups and investors, developers, innovaters, and business leaders. As part of the programming, products and developments made by Ukrainian and foreign companies will be presented to professionals and others interest in hi-tech technologies.

IT programmers, developers, startups, and business leaders will gather for a second time in Lviv at one of Ukraine’s most incredible IT events – Lviv IT Arena 2015 – from October 2nd-4th at Arena Lviv. Nearly 1200 IT professionals and more than 100 keynote speakers from Ukraine and abroad will participate in Lviv IT Arena this time around. The conference promises to cover the latest IT trends in three thematic areas: Product, Technology, and Business. While last year’s conference was considered to be a great success, organizers promise that this year’s event will be even bigger.

“Georgian Tresaure” by the Legendary Erisioni

An unforgettable night of traditional Georgian dance accompanied by traditional folkloric melodies awaits Leopolitans and guests of the city that attend the Erisioni concert, put on by the Georgian National Dance and Music Ensemble, on October 7th at Lviv’s opulent Opera & Ballet Theatre. Founded in 1885, the Erisioni ensemble is referred to as Georgia’s “folklore museum”. The group, celebrating its 130th anniversary this year, comprises about 100 artists from many generations. In 1999, American producer Jim Lowe and French stage director Pascal Jordan became interested in the ensemble and invested large sums of money to create an inimitable show.

Vakhtang Kikabidze in Concert

After a successful concert back in March, the Georgian singer, actor, screenwriter, and composer Vakhtang Kikabidze will return to Lviv’s Opera & Ballet Theatre with his new program “Encore”. The legendary “Buba” Kikabidze was named “Man of the Year” by the Supreme Council of Ukraine’s Academics in April to reward the national artist of Georgia for “supporting Ukrainian people” and “promoting the patriotic spirit during the hard times of 2014”.

Gold Inca Empire

Fans of Hispanic music and culture won’t want to miss the unique and colourful Gold Inca Empire show by El Dorado on September 23rd. The El Dorado Group was created by the Like Production company and features on-stage musicians that combine traditional folk music with ethno-pop. The Golden Inca Empire concert will introduce Leopolitans and guests of the city to the most vivid musical heritage of the Americas.

K&K Philharmoniker Orchestra in Concert

Lviv has always taken pride in being one of Eastern Europe’s most cosmopolitan classical music centres and in recent years the quality of visiting international performers has risen steadily. A case in point is the excellent K&K Philharmoniker Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Georg Kendlinger, which will return to Lviv on October 19th. Since 2002, Austrian composer and conductor Matthias Georg Kendlinger and the K&K Philharmoniker Symphony Orchestra have appeared regularly on the best stages and most illustrious concert halls in over 20 European countries.

Royal Hungarian Operetta

The Royal Hungarian Operetta is pleased to bring their gala concert to Lviv’s spectacular Opera & Ballet Theatre on September 21st. There is no doubt that the world’s musical landscape would be much different without the contribution of Hungarian operettas – considered to be among the world’s best. Works from Hungarian masters such as Imre Kálmán, Ferenc Lehár and Jenő Huszka are regularly performed around the globe alongside the masterpieces of Offenbach or Strauss. The Royal Hungarian Operetta is bringing their talents to Lviv for a magical evening at our Opera & Ballet Theatre.

Lviv Scale Models Fest 2015

Lviv’s Danylo Halytskyi International Airport will be home to the Lviv Scale Models Fest 2015 – an international exhibition of scale models – over the September 19th-20th weekend. High-quality, detailed, and authentic models of aircraft, motor and military vehicles, marine vessels, figurines, and dioramas will be on display. The event is expected to gather scale-model masters from Ukraine as well as abroad. Some of the models featured at the event have previously won awards at international competitions.

International Tattoo Fest 2015

Lviv’s International Tattoo Fest, which has grown to be the biggest, best, most significant, and utterly awesome in Western Ukraine’s tattoo world, will take place this year for the sixth time from October 9th-11th at the Lviv Art Palace. Tattoo Fest is a cool art show featuring talented tattoo artists from across the nation taking part in live tattoo contests in over 10 categories in a 3-day, non-stop program.

Legendary Boris Grebenshchikov Plays Lviv

Lviv’s trendy Picasso nightclub is pleased to announce that Boris Grebenshchikov – one of the most prominent members of the generation of artists considered to be the “founding fathers” of Russian rock music – will play a special concert for Leopolitans and guests of the city on September 22nd. Grebenshchikov, who began his career in the early 1970s with the band Aquarium, is considered to be the Russian equivalent of Bob Dylan.

QARPA Presents New Program

Lviv’s hopping Picasso nightclub is pleased to present on September 19th a new concert programme hosted by Irena Karpa and her band QARPA. For those that don’t know, Irena Karpa is a well-known Ukrainian writer, journalist, and singer. She has been the frontwoman and songwriter for the band Faktychno Sami since 1999 and her first book was published in 2000 when she studied at the Kyiv National Linguistic University. After graduation, she traveled to Southeast Asia, which provided the inspiration for her book Freud Would Cry.

Fireflies Shadow Theatre

Lviv’s Zankovetska National Theatre is pleased to host the Shadow Space performance by the Fireflies shadow theatre on September 29th. Fireflies is an amateur collective shadow theatre that was created in Chernihiv in 2010. The theatre performs locally, nationally, and even internationally at various festivals, competitions, ceremonies, and other events, including at the Odesa International Film Festival, GogolFest, and the Qatar Spring Festival.

Manhattan Short Film Festival

An extraordinary global event will take place once again from September 25th to October 4th when over 100,000 people in over 300 cities across six continents will gather in cinemas, galleries, museums, and cafes for the purpose of viewing and voting on the Finalist Films in the annual Manhattan Short Film Festival. The event is a communal celebration that occurs simultaneously across the globe, bringing great films to great venues and allowing audiences the chance to select their favourites. The winners of the festival will be announced on the ManhattanShort.com home page on Monday, October 5th.

Kraina Mriy (The Land of Dreams) Festival

Lviv is the stage for third Kraina Mriy (The Land of Dreams) Festival, a rollicking celebration of ethnic music, over the October 10th – 11th weekend. This year’s festivities will be held at the city’s scenic outdoor Shevchenkivsky Hai Museum of National Folk Architecture & Rural Life. Kraina Mriy was founded by the celebrated Ukrainian rock musician Oleh Skrypka, leader of the renowned band Vopli Vidpoliasova (VV). The festival takes its moniker after one the band’s songs – Kraina Mriy.

Can You Be the National Championship of Confectionary Art?

As part of the official programme of Lviv Chocolate Fest, the first Ukrainian National Championship of Confectionary Art – the BISCOTTI Confectionary Chef 2015 competition – will be held on October 17th and 18th. The competition is jointly sponsored by the BISCOTTI Company along with DGF International Culinary Concept and DGF International Culinary School. Eight candidates, selected following a questionnaire and interview phase, will take part in what is expected to be a grueling competition.

Known across Ukraine and far past our borders for a delicious chocolate, chocolate-lovers and those with a sweet tooth will be pleased to hear that the never-ending festival of chocolate – Chocolate Fest – will return to Lviv from October 16th to 18th.

Coffee Festival

As has become a tradition in Lviv in late September, the annual Coffee Festival that celebrates Lviv’s bustling and vibrant coffee scene returns to the city from September 24th – 27th. With thousands of coffee lovers, foodies, professional baristas, coffee shop owners, and other movers and shakers expected to attend, the Lviv Coffee Festival promises to be a can’t-miss event for every coffee lover and industry insiders alike. The festival is set to feature artisan coffee and gourmet food stalls, demonstrations from world-class baristas, live entertainment and music in uniquely themed zones, and – of course – tastings!

SAN’KOFF Club – one of Lviv’s hottest nightlife spots – celebrated two of Ukraine’s biggest holidays in style. The Flag Day and Independence Day parties attracted a glamorous crowd with one-of-a-kind cocktails, pumping music, and a dazzling party atmosphere. To keep the crowd bouncing, the parties featured performances by DJ VALENTINE, MC Fessby, and GENTLEMEN PROJECT.

Performance Art Days in Lviv

Lviv hosted the Days of Performance Art in Lviv festival from September 2nd-6th in partnership with the Eastern Partnership Culture Congress. This unique event aims to promote and develop Ukrainian and international contemporary art. This year’s theme was “Performance. Activation”. Both experienced artists and novices from Ukraine, Israel, Great Britain, Poland, Belarus and Germany took part in the festival: Pavlo Kovach, Myroslav Yaremak, Yurii Sokolov, Miroslaw Wajda and Petro Riaska, Meir Tati, Ernesto Levy, Tamar Raban, Sandra Johnston, Janusz Bałdyga, Zygmunt Piotrowski, Waldemar Tatarczuk, Przemyslaw Branas, Szymon Kula, Yuras Borisevich, Konstantin Muzhev, the group “ЭКЗАРЦЫСТЫЧНЫ GESAMTKUNSTWERK“, Dorothea Seror.

I Choreography Festival “Ballet-Fest”

The Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera & Ballet hosted the inaugural Ballet Fest, which featured choreographers and dancers that create work outside of the traditional, classical milieu. The project started in spring 2015 and saw 12 choreographers from across Ukraine selected after a series of online castings. The Lviv Theatre of Opera & Ballet dancers performed at the gala concert and the winners were awarded their prizes.

III World Boyko Congress

The Turka Region in Lviv Oblast brought together guests from the UK, Canada, USA, Australia, and many other countries for the 3rd World Boyko Congress from August 6th-9th. Boyko is an ethnographic group of Ukrainian highlanders that live along the slopes of the middle Carpathian Mountains in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Transcarpathian Oblasts.

New Lviv Police Officers Swear Allegiance to the Ukrainian People

Lviv’s UNESCO-recognized Rynok Square saw more than 400 new police officers take an oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people on August 23rd – Ukraine’s National Flag Day. The ceremony was attended by several notable people, including: Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk; Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, and First Deputy Interior Minister Ekaterina Zguladze. The text of the oath was read out by the Head of Lviv’s Patrol Police Yury Zozulya.

FM Halychyna– Western Ukraine’s coolest radio station – celebrated their 5th anniversary in style with a spectacular party. Since its inception, the station has earned a special place in the hearts of Ukrainian listeners by being the ideal platform for Ukrainian music and by offering its listeners feel-good music all the time.
