Originally a gospel singer, American songwriter Christopher “Chris” Willis received international attention for his collaborations with house music artist David Guetta, including the songs “Just a Little More Love”, “Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away).

The Koktebel Jazz Festival which was established in 2003, will be celebrating its 10th jubilee this year. The festival started out as a private initiative (its main founder and ideologist is Dmitriy Kiselev) and soon gained vast recognition among music lovers and for the present day the Jazz Festival is truly a huge movement, which is greatly influencing and changing the European music world. Sparkling performances, outstanding gigs and an audience-oriented atmosphere await those who make their way to the Koktebel Jazz festival, one of the few premiumfestivals with no entrance fee.

Summer season highlights 20 years of Kazantip Annual rave republic on Crimean coastline prepares to mark two decades of hedonism

Up to 50,000 revelers are expected to descend on the Crimean seaside resort of Popovka this July and August for what promises to be one of Eastern Europe’s largest ever beach parties. Ukraine’s Kazantip rave festival will be marking its 20th anniversary this summer, and many of those who fell in love with the event over the past two decades are expected to attend the jubilee celebrations.

Week of Contemporary Art 2012

From August 30th to September 8th, a “Week of Contemporary Art”—an extremely significant event in Ukraine’s contemporary artistic life, will take place in Lviv for the fifth time. The IV Jewish culture festival “LvivKlezFest”

The Klezmer Festival in Lviv (“LvivKlezFest”) is an international festival of Jewish music, song and dance. It is an attempt to revive the lost musical culture of Jews living in Galicia. Throughout the festival program, guests and participants of the event will have the opportunity to enjoy Klezmer music, dancing, singing, as well as consorting with festival participants – famous groups, dance bands and family choirs from Ukraine, Russia, Austria, Israel, Germany, Poland, France, Sweden. During the main concert, bands will sing not only in Yiddish, but also in different languages representing their respective countries.

Dance Summer Weekends

This summer, all dance fans will get the wonderful opportunity to practice the Universal Language of Dance in a friendly atmosphere at the picturesque park. Each weekend, starting from July 7th, more than 20 dance styles will be showcased at energetic master classes provided by Lviv’s numerous dance schools.

International short film festival “Wiz- Art 2012 “

The first International Festival of Visual Art was held in Lviv in 2008, with premieres of 50 visual works (shorts, videoclips, videopoetry and experimentals) created by filmmakers from more than 20 countries all over the world. This year, the festival will take place for the 5th time and will focus on presenting modern innovative tendencies in cinematography. Among the participants of the festival will be filmmakers and producers from Ukraine and abroad. The program of the festival will include demonstrations of short films, animation works, videoart, videopoetry works, experimental video, retrospectives screenings and original videoclips, which have not been previously shown in Ukraine. All films which have won at the Wiz-art-2012 will be shown in Kyiv in the beginning of August.

VII International Festival of Independent Cinematography “Kino Lev 2012”

The 7th Annual Festival “Kino Lev” will be held, providing all movie fans with a truly emotional and cultural feast. This year, “Kino Lev” will explore the concept: “Cinema as Propaganda” and accordingly the festival program will present film masterpieces by such world renowned filmmakers as Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Leni Riefenstahl, Anatoly Litvak and many others.

VIII Bread Holiday

On August 26th, Lviv will joyfully celebrate one of the tastiest holidays of the year – it’s Annual Bread Day! Leopolitans and guests of the city are invited to the park ‘Shevchenkivsky Hay” where the celebrations begin with the blessing of round loaves of bread in the old church and a festive walk around the open-air museum and park.

The Summer Olympic Games are an international event, occurring every four years, organized by the International Olympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that started in 1904. The modern Olympic Games were founded in 1894 when Pierre Fredy, Baron de Coubertin sought to promote international understanding through sporting competition. The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event which was celebrated in Athens, Greece, from April 6 to April 15, 1896. It was the first Olympic Games held in the Modern era. Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympic Games, consequently Athens was perceived to be an appropriate choice to stage the inaugural modern Games.

From June 15-17th 2012, Lviv hosted the Medieval Festival “Lviv Legend”, a colorful event which recreated the life and culture of people in Europe in the 14-15th centuries and offered Leopolitans and guests of the city the wonderful opportunity to meet old-time heroes, beautiful ladies-in-waiting and brave knights.

Lviv has successfully fulfilled its hosting responsibilities for the EURO-2012 championship and has left a lasting and positive impression on visiting and local football fans! Many football fans came to the city just for the football matches of the Euro and ended up discovering much more. They fell in love with a historic city centre, warm people, beautiful girls and tasty food! Football fans were truly overwhelmed by the helpfulness, kindness and generous hospitality of the people living in Lviv.

PAINTINGS RESTORED TO THEIR ORIGINAL GLORY!

On Thursday, June 28th, 2012 at Zolochiv and Olesky Castles of the Lviv region, restored battle scene paintings of Martino Altomonte, "Battle of Parkany"(canvas, oil, 8,9 х 7,15 m) and "Battle of Vienna" ( canvas, oil, 7,38x 7,65m.) were hung. The event was dedicated to the memory of the “Hero of Ukraine”, Borys Voznytsky, the late director of the Lviv Gallery of Arts, who recently passed away. Exposition rooms were specially reconstructed for these large paintings in the Zolochiv and Olesky Castles.
