Controversial Lviv-born director Roman Viktyuk returns to his home town for a double bill of the old and new. ‘King Harlequin’ is a typically avant-garde Viktyuk interpretation of Rudolph Lotar’s about court intrigue, featuring the director’s calling cards of revisionism, unique staging and overt sexuality.

The Lviv-based charitable organisation, Salus Foundation, as part of the World Aids Day initiative, is working with a number of other organisations (Secours Catholique Caritas France, Rust, and Metamorphoses), and will be organising an artistic competition, inviting people to submit creative umbrellas, dedicated to the World ANTIAIDS day and AIDS related issues in general.

Appointed to represent Austria in Ukraine in summer 2010, Ambassador Heim spoke to Lviv Today about the Austrian investment situation in the region and shared his thoughts on why Austrian companies have found such a warm welcome waiting for them in the former Habsburg heartlands of West Ukraine.

October saw the unveiling of 2 new Euro 2012 stadiums in Kyiv and Lviv, completing Ukraine’s set of four host city venues ahead of next summer’s showcase European Championships. The country is still far from ready for its role as Euro 2012 co-host, but nevertheless Ukraine’s achievement in meeting its stadium obligations more than half a year before the big kick-off is a symbolically potent success that hasconfounded the legions of doubters who consistently said that it couldn’t be done.
