For the tenth year running Ukraine will greet the onset of winter with an array of contemporary British kino, with the Lviv leg of a nationwide cinematic tour kicking off on December 16.

Pampushky are local Lviv delicacies that share many characteristics with donuts but which also play a big role in the culinary aspects of a traditional Leopolitan Christmas celebration. These small fried balls of dough are traditionally powdered with sugar and can come with sweet fillings.

This festival honours the ancient Ukrainian tradition of celebrating large Christmas stars as the main symbol of the New Year festive season. This traditional association of Christmas with the astrological sign of the star which we encounter in Lviv region fits in with the Christian tradition of the Nativity but it also hints at more ancient strological interests, reflecting traditional Ukraine’s deep roots into the mysteries of the pagan past.

There are few holidays on the calendar quite as poetically post-Soviet as Old New Year’s Eve, that Tsarist hangover which almost one hundred years later allows the population of Ukraine to extend the debauches of the festive season for a further week with no more than a nod and a wink.

German company KLINGSPOR AG recently presented its new branch production facility in Velyky Mosty, Lviv Oblast. The global abrasives manufacturing leader began investment into the construction of a new abrasive technologies factory in Lviv Oblast in the summer of 2009.
