ІІІ International Chamber Music Festival “ Szymanowski Quartet and Friends”

For the third time, the Chamber Music Festival , initiated 2008 by the Szymanowski Quartet, will take place between June 10th and 13th 2010. Having chosen Lviv as the home for this project, the quartet directs attention to a city which is located at the border between the Ukraine and Poland and is a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO.

Ukraine may have missed out on this summer’s World Cup Finals by a whisker (they lost a two legged play-off to Greece 1-0), but there will be international quality football action in Lviv this summer as the national team take on fellow East European footballing powerhouse Romania in a friendly match which will pit two sides both of which are currently undergoing rebuilding processes.

Tango festival, May 25-30, venues across the city centre

Lviv in summer is a sultry and steamy place where the South American art of tango is particularly well-suited. This month a selection of Lviv landmarks and palaces will play host to a series of tango-flavoured events and kino screenings.

First launched in 1981, this classical music festival is one of the highlights of the Lviv cultural calendar. Guests of the festival this year will include Anastasyia Pilatuk, violin (Italy), Аndriy Vijtovych, violin, (Great Britain).

Lviv Oblast welcomed its latest governor in April as newly appointed Lviv native and Party of Regions official Vasyl Horbal took up his new post. Born in Lviv in 1971, Horbal was appointed governor of Lviv Oblast by Ukraine’s new president Viktor Yanukovych as part of sweeping dministrative changes across the country following the February presidential elections.
