Lviv’s Social Media Camp 2018 will take place at the Hotel Dnister on 17 March. Providing top-level strategic advice and digital marketing insight on how to engage customers, manage brand perceptions, and open untapped audiences through diverse media channels, Lviv’s largest social media conference with attract a broad spectrum of delegates that will tackle all things social media. Speakers and participants will come from all over Ukraine and from all sectors of the economy – small and large business, government, education, and non-profit agencies. They will cover all aspects of social media marketing – communications, sales, crowdsourcing, e-learning, and marketing – be it content, email, or inbound.

Garage48 Empowering Women Hackathon

Garage48 returns to Lviv from 16-18 March to encourage more women to take the entrepreneurial path. The Garage48 event series began in Estonia in 2010 and has expanded across Europe and Africa since. Events are held in English and draw hundreds of international participants with different skillsets: engineers, developers, designers, marketers, visionaries – they all come together to work on their ideas in a fun atmosphere!

ONUKA & NAOFI in Lviv

ONUKA, one of the hottest rock groups in Ukraine, will be joined by the NAOFI National Folk Instrument Orchestra for an incredible concert at Lviv’s majestic Opera & Ballet Theatre on 13 March. Pianoboy with Chamber Orchestra

Lviv’s happening M. Zankovetska Drama Theatre will host a concert by popular Ukrainian artist Dmitry Shurov, better known as Pianoboy. Shurov has practiced music for many years, experimenting with different styles and arrangements. He writes his own lyrics, composes music, sings, and plays the piano. He is most well-known for having been a member of Ukraine’s most popular rock band, Okean Elzy, from 2001-04. But he also cofounded the Esthetic Education band (2004-08) and his latest and most successful project, Pianoboy.

‘Eye to Eye’ with Dmitry Gordon

Lviv’s signature Opera & Ballet Theatre will host Ukrainian pop singer Iryna Bilyk’s ‘Without Make-Up. The Best. About Love.’ concert on 6 March. For nearly 25 years, every song of Bilyk’s is a hit, every video a piece of art, and every appearance in front of a full house. Long considered to be Ukraine’s ‘Madonna’, the press watches her every move. Her new concert program is sure to delight Leopolitan music lovers and guests of the city with her best songs from different albums, all united by the theme of love. The concert will feature a new team of musicians playing exotic musical instruments, as well as dancers in amazing, new costumes.

Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet Returns to Lviv

#Hash Code 2018

The UCU Hash Code Hub will play host on 1 March to #Hash Code 2018, a programming competition open to students and industry professionals. As always, this year’s event will consist of two rounds. The online qualification round will take place on 1 March from 18:30 to 22:30.

Hotel group plans 2018 regional expansion

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group hopes for progress on regional projects as guests return to Ukraine Hotel manager Jesper Henriksen has only been in Kyiv for just over half a year, but he has already noticed positive trends in the Ukrainian capital city’s hotel sector that he believes bode well for the Ukrainian economy as a whole.

IT INDUSTRY: Ukrainian IT exports increase by 20% in 2017 to reach USD 3.6 billion

A yearly IT sector overview released in January 2018 by the IT Ukraine Association highlights the robust performance of the country’s IT industry. Ukraine’s IT exports grew by 20% year-on-year in 2017 to reach a new record of USD 3.6 billion. This figure is projected to increase to USD 4.5 billion in 2018, with the forecast for 2025 currently standing at USD 8.4 billion, or around 4.65% of anticipated GDP.

Age of Volumes 2018

Lviv is a city with a long and storied tradition of mountaineering and climbing, which is why the Age of Volumes 2018 bouldering festival came to town on 9-10 February. One of the largest climbing activities in the region, the event took place at Lviv’s oldest and most difficult climbing wall at the local ‘Extreme’ club (40 Lazarenka St.).

Lviv’s Athlete of the Month for January - Olena Stetskiv

Stetskiv was awarded Lviv’s Athlete of the Month for January. A graduate of the Lviv State University of Physical Culture, she finished ninth at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria and 26th at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Lviv Today Wins Big for Sports Coverage

Lviv Today was recognised for its excellence in sports coverage in 2017 by three leading sports organisations in Ukraine. Our magazine was recognised as the ‘Best Sports Journal of the Year’ by the National Olympic Committee’s Lviv office, while finishing runner-up in the same category by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine.

PM Groysman Pays Working Visit to Lviv

Ukraine’s head of government paid a working visit to Lviv on 8 February. Prime Minister Volodomyr Groysman met with students and teachers at the Ukrainian Catholic University and later checked in on the reconstruction work at the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Centre, which is set to open by the end of the year.

Event Industry Forum

Arena Lviv played host to the Event Industry Forum, a special event aimed at the self-identification of the event industry in Western Ukraine – and especially Lviv – from 9-10 February. The forum’s program was put together so to heighten the understanding of an event manager’s work, show new possibilities of the profession, set a new pace for the industry’s market, and create a new impulse for its creativity.

Cheerful Chinese Spring Concert

On February 6th Leopolitans and guests of the city were delighted by a special “Jolly Holiday of Spring” concert featuring artists and musicians from China. The event was organised by the Lanhua Cultural Research Centre of China and Ukraine to mark the Chinese New Year, which began on February 16th. Following the Chinese Lunar Calendar, Chinese New Year is every year on a different date.

INSO-Lviv Celebrated 20th Anniversary

One of Ukraine’s finest symphony orchestras – Lviv’s-own INSO-Lviv – festively celebrated its 20th anniversary on 28 January in an event hosted by the Lviv Philharmonic Society. Each year the orchestra brings to life some of Ukraine’s grandest and most unique musical projects, like the all-Ukrainian ‘Shared Sky’ project that united Ukraine’s seven largest orchestras in performing Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ at airports across Ukraine in a show of Ukrainian unity, or the international cultural event ‘Ready. Steady. BACH! Marathon’ in Lviv that set the record for longest live performance of Bach music in Ukraine.

Poroshenko Meets With Canadian Governor General

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with Canadian Governor General Julie Payette – also the country’s Commander-in-Chief – in Lviv in January to discuss issues of further cooperation. Payette arrived in Lviv to show her support to Canadian soldiers taking part in the UNIFIER operation in Ukraine. During her stay, she visited the ATO Heroes Memorial and met with members of the Canadian and Ukrainian armed forces at the military police training centre, which was established as part of the UNIFIER operation in 2017 with the help of Canadians.
