This year’s Education and Career Forum for potential university students and their parents will be held at Forum Lviv from 23-24 February. Representatives of leading European universities and colleges will meet with students, parents, and teachers and present their best cases to attract some of Western Ukraine’s top students to institutions in Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, and the Baltic states.

Days of Scandinavia and Finland

Lviv’s Book Lion bookstore and gallery will host the Days of Scandinavia and Finland – an exciting new event dedicated to the culture, music, cinema, literature, and mythology of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland – from 28 January to 3 February.

Young Stars of Ballet Gala Concert

Lviv’s majestic Opera & Ballet Theatre is the site for the Young Stars of Ballet gala concert on 25 February. This stunning event will showcase the Top 20 junior ballet dance winners of the Ballet Art Guild’s national contest. Featuring 100 of Ukraine’s top junior ballet dancers, the contest is designed to inspire the pursuit of excellence and to change lives through dance.

CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL IN LVIV

On February 14th, the International cultural organization “Lanhua Cultural-Research Centre of Ukraine and China” will present Leopolitans and gusts of the city with “Chinese New Year Festival” which will feature traditional and contemporary Chinese cultural activities, dancing, singing, arts, crafts and much more.

GameDev Conference 2018

Lviv’s GameDev conference, a large-scale event for game developers, will take place at Arena Lviv on 27 January. The event is slated to bring together more than 50 speakers and thousands of participants from across Ukraine. GameDev will feature seven streams during the day and will cover all stages of creating a game – from coming up with the idea to entering global markets.

‘Study Abroad: 1000 Opportunities’ Exhibition

Lviv’s Nobilis Hotel will host the ‘Study Abroad: 1000 Opportunities’ exhibition on 17 February. This clever event is dedicated to helping students like you discover the numerous educational opportunities available around the world.

Ukrainian Business Marathon

Lviv’s second annual Ukrainian Business Marathon will bring together over 100 owners, managers, and businesspeople from across Ukraine to Arena Lviv’s conference hall over the 17-18 February weekend. The Ukrainian Business Forum is a high-quality, ‘must attend’ event, with leading-edge speakers and a program designed for wealth structuring and corporate professionals.

Notre Dame de Paris Show

Lviv’s beautiful Opera & Ballet Theatre will host the amazing Notre Dame de Paris music show on 24 February. Taking the world by storm since its creation in France in 1998, the musical spectacular has been seen by more than 10 million people worldwide! Ukrainian artists will present the famous story based on French novelist Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Riccardo Cocciante handled the music, while the lyrics were written by Luc Plamondon.

‘When the Fern Blossoms’

In early February, Lviv’s charming Opera & Ballet Theatre will host three amazing shows of the ‘When the Fern Blossoms’ opera and ballet. Unique in both genre and stage history, Yevhen Stankevych’s 1977 musical was banned by the Soviet regime and never performed.

French Cinema Nights 2018

Beginning 25th January, Leopolitan cinema lovers and guests of the city will be able to enjoy some of France’s finest films of 2017 at the French Cinema Nights festival. All films – including Le Redoubtable, Happy End, Cherchez la Femme, and Rodin – will be shown in French with Ukrainian subtitles.

The eyes of nearly two billion people will be on 40 of Ukraine’s finest winter athletes as they head to compete at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Korea next month. Not known as a traditional winter sports powerhouse, Ukraine pumps fully half of their winter sports funding into biathlon (€17.9 million). You’ll want to be sure to check out the women’s relay team as they try to repeat their 2014 glory while in Asia.

Lviv’s World Chess Champion Stands Up for Women’s Rights

Lviv’s world rapid and blitz chess champion Anna Muzychuk decided to forego her chance to repeat – and win the substantial payouts that come along with it – to protest that the event will be held in Saudi Arabia, a country notorious for it’s weak women’s rights standards. She says she has no interest in wearing the abaya (the long, loose-fitting dark robe Saudi women are made to wear), in being accompanied when outdoors, or to “altogether not to feel myself a secondary creature”.

Winter Fairytale 2017

Lviv’s Halychyna Sports Palace hosted the national Winter Fairytale 2017 artistic gymnastics tournament from 18-19 December. Nearly every region of Ukraine were among the 300 participants aged five and up, as well as athletes from Poland, Moldova, and Norway.

Athlete of the Month

Wrestler Tetyana Kit and cyclist Roman Gladysh won the final two Athlete of the Month awards in 2017 from the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Tetyana was named the November Athlete of the Month for winning a historic bronze medal in the U58 kg division at the under-23 world wrestling championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
